This is a rugged, vehicle license plate capture camera solution, combining camera, lens, lighting, filter, housing, bracketry, in a single calibrated and tested unit. The colour overview camera can be installed as option in the same housing. WalzCAM HD can handle any speed from 1 to 250 km/h (1 to 155 mph), and distances for up 27 meters (88 feet), making it ideal for application ranging from parking to high speed traffic monitoring.

To accurately read a license plate, it is crucial to have the best image of the license plate for the read to work on. Employing conventional security or surveillance cameras for number plate capturing, will give good results under ideal conditions of diffuse sunlight. There are however other conditions that cause a severe degradation of image quality and a consequent reduction in accuracy. Such conditions include:
- Headlight or brake lights dazzles the camera
- Strong sunlight dazzles the camera or put the license plate in the shade
- Strong reflections cause glint
- Rain or other environmental conditions can obscure the view
Intertraff has developed WalzCAM, to ensure that the image is clear and bright, even under adverse conditions.

The camera comprises a HD monochrome CCD sensor (1.288 x 964 pixels) with high sensitivity in the infra-red and 4 High-Power IR LEDs. It is also possible to install a colour camera in the same housing.

Despite its small size, WalzCAM HD is extremely robust and may monitor 1 wide lane of traffic. It’s designed to deliver reliable operation in all weather conditions, especially harsh environments such as Middle East. WalzCAM HD working temperature range extends from -25°C to 60°C. WalzCAM HD is available for immediate use in diverse applications, such as Customs controls, Access control, Car park management, Vehicle Routing and Entrance and Exit Barrier Control.

Each unit incorporates:
– Integral monochrome HD camera module, with lens and optical band-pass filter
– Secondary Colour overview camera and lens, which can be installed as option
– Four High-Power infrared (IR) light emitting diode (LED) illuminators which compensate for sunlight and vehicle headlights
– Power supply unit.

The unit is environmentally sealed to IP66 to protect against all weather conditions. The LED illuminator used in the WalzCAM HD has been assessed to Safety Standards IEC 60825-1:1993 Amendment 2 dated 2001-01 and BS EN 60825-1:1994, with Amendments 1 and 2
